Do you feel like your throwing skills have plateaued? Have you asked yourself “How can I make this pot more interesting?”, but may not feel like you have the technique to get there? Fear not, “Building up” is for you!
In this 6-week class we will learn to make larger and more intriguing vessels using throwing processes that are already familiar to us. You are going to take bowls, cylinders, plus other forms, and give them a whole new life. Andrew will show you how to piece different vessels together as well as incorporate hand building techniques that will help gain scale. Along with these new skills, we will be exploring the gestural approach to slip work, the dynamic textures that come along with stamping and the meditative process of carving on leather hard clay.
This class is geared towards the intermediate thrower which means that participants should be comfortable wedging, centering, pulling, trimming and throwing between 2-3 pounds of clay. By the end of this class you will have added a variety of new building techniques that you can apply to your work in a number of ways.
