This is a beginner friendly class for those who are new to Risograph printing, created specifically for digital artists & designers who want to print their own Risograph art prints, flyers, greeting cards, zines, etc.

In this 3 week class, you will learn how to print with a Risograph machine, tips and tricks, how to set up your own digital files for printing in Procreate, Photoshop, or Illustrator, use the Spectrolite app for converting existing artwork to riso-ready print files, and more. We will be creating and printing original artworks that use 2, 3, or even 4 ink colors.

Week 1: Learning Risograph basic knowledge and looking at sample prints. Students will create 2 color prints together with the Riso SF5130 using analog methods, to get a feel for the process. Next, we will go over digital artwork creation, and file preparation. Homework: return next week ready to print your own 2 color risograph print.

Week 2: In depth demonstration & checklist on how to use the Risograph printer, then printing your new artwork in pairs. We will go over the Spectrolite program & its uses. Homework: Return next week with new artwork file(s) for your choice of 2, 3, or 4 color prints.

Week 3: Printing session! Work in pairs to make prints on the risograph machines. We’ll trade artwork at the end of the session.

*REQUIRED: Your own iPad, drawing tablet, laptop, or other digital drawing/designing setup as we will be working in class. Recommended: Procreate, Photoshop, or Illustrator. You will need some familiarity with your digital drawing program of choice, especially if using a program other than the 3 listed.

After taking this class, you will be able to book Risograph Open Studio time and explore the wonderful world of Riso on your own!
