FIRING REQUIREMENTS

BISQUE FIRING

We fire our bisque to cone 04

Requirements

  • All work must have a logo, signature, or identifiable maker’s mark

  • You must be able to provide us with they type of clay, temperature rating, and name of manufacturer. Example: BC6 Cone 5 from Clay Art Center

  • Work should be bone dry to guarantee firing timing. If you drop off pieces that are wet we will wait as long as it takes to dry before firing your work

  • Work must be no more than 1” thick in any area

WE will not fire

  • Mayco Stroke and Coat glazes for bisque firing

  • Work with visible cracks

  • Work with walls thicker than 1”

  • Do not leave paper, metals, foliage inside clay without checking in with Staff before dropping off

glaze FIRING

We fire our glaze to cone 5

Requirements

  • Glazed work must have at least 1/4” unglazed margin along the base, and a 1/2” . This includes the underside of a trimmed foot as well as lids. If you want a smaller margin, you must provide your own cookie to fire your piece on top of

  • Your work must have all glaze wiped from the bottom. It will not be fired if glaze is found on the underside of any piece

  • Glazes used need to be mid-range cone 4-6 (not 04-06)

  • Work must be bisque fired prior to glaze firing. We do not single-fire or raw-fire work (going from greenware straight to glaze, skipping the bisque kiln)

WE will not fire

  • Work with visible cracks

  • Work that requires stilts (fully glazed pieces with no unglazed base)

  • Glazed pieces with less than a 1/4” unglazed margin along the base without a provided ceramic cookie

Luster Firing

We fire our luster to cone 018

We accept the following lusters: Mother of Pearl , Palladium, and Gold (White, Bright, Platinum, Premium)

Luster firings happen every other month on the 3rd weekend. Drop off your work no earlier than one week beforehand

Requirements

  • You must provide the luster brand used so we can verify it’s compatible with our firing temperature

  • Your pieces must be glaze-fired before they can be luster fired

WE will not fire

  • Greenware or bisqueware. Luster needs to be applied to glaze-fired pieces

  • Lusters that are not compatible with our kiln temperatures

Luster Firing Dates 2025-26

  • December: Sunday, Dec 14 (drop off Dec 7–14)

  • February: Sunday, Feb 15  (drop off Feb 18–15)

  • April: Sunday, Apr 15 (drop off Apr 8-15)

  • June: Sunday, Jun 21 (drop off Jun 14-21)

  • August: Sunday, Aug 16 (drop off Aug 9-16)

  • October: Sunday, Oct 18 (drop off Oct11-18 )

  • December: Sunday, Dec 20 (drop off Dec 13-20)
